I remember visiting the farm 21 years ago and being bowled over by these wines. It wasn’t just the fact that they were so friendly and allowed us to taste some wines direct from the barrel, but the quality and the unashamed belief that they were making great wine was infectious. From the open tank fermentation to the detail in each blend was magical.
21 years later and Abrie Beeslaar is still leading the charge with arguably the best-known Pinotage brand coming out of South Africa.
For this Kadette and any wines in the Kadette range there must be a minimum of 30% Pinotage, and all the varieties are aged in 225l French oak. These include Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot.
The nose is bursting with red currants, cherries and a hint of spice with a touch of mocha. If you haven’t tried this then it should be on your bucket list.
