Now being run by the 4th generation of the Back Family
Backsberg has a well-developed program of community support
This wine is full of fresh tropical fruit like melon and passion fruit. It has a good acidity which adds to the freshness. This is a great drink now and enjoy now fresh summer garden wine.
Backsberg Wine Estate is based on the northeastern slopes of the Simonsberg mountain. The farm was originally purchased by Charles Louis Back in 1902 and is now run by the 4th generation of Simon Back.
The appeal for me is Backsberg's commitment to their community and the environment. This winery is South Africa's first certified carbon neutral winery and runs numerous schemes to benefit their employees, one of which includes Freedom Road Housing Project which aims to ensure that every worker can own the house they live in and another scheme that offers bursaries to their employee's children to fund them through tertiary education. This gets a huge high 5 from me.
We hope you enjoy this wine and the great initiatives it supports.
